Algerian Minister Demands Complete Mobile Coverage on Roads

Sid-Ali Zerrouki, Algeria’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, has issued a firm directive to mobile network operators. His instructions mandate significant investment to ensure comprehensive mobile network coverage across all national roadways. This demand is based on strict adherence to operational specifications and existing licensing agreements.

Addressing Mobile Coverage Gaps

During a recent inspection tour of western Algerian provinces, starting with El Bayadh, Minister Zerrouki, accompanied by ministry officials and heads of public telecom operators, addressed the critical issue of insufficient or absent mobile network coverage on major road arteries. The Algerian Press Service (APS) reported Zerrouki’s statement that this lack of coverage by some operators is unacceptable. He explicitly instructed operators to prioritize investments in bolstering mobile coverage along roads, as stipulated in their operating licenses and service agreements. The minister further stated that warnings will be issued by the regulatory authority to operators who fail to meet the required standards for mobile network coverage.

In conclusion, the Algerian government, through Minister Zerrouki’s directives, is taking a proactive stance to improve mobile connectivity for citizens by ensuring universal coverage along the nation’s roads. This move highlights a focus on essential infrastructure development that will promote economic growth and digital inclusion within Algeria’s growing tech ecosystem.
