Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy: Logistics & Transport Drive Success

Logistics and Transport: Pillars of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy

Ghana’s ambition to establish a 24-hour economy hinges on the pivotal roles played by logistics, transport, and supply chain professionals. This assertion was made by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama during the 60th-anniversary celebration of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Ghana on August 21, 2025. The success of a round-the-clock economic model in Ghana, according to Debrah, is inextricably linked to the effectiveness of these critical sectors.

The Vital Role of Logistics Professionals

Debrah highlighted the indispensable contribution of logistics and transport experts to the success of this vision. He acknowledged CILT’s members as the architects of the necessary systems, the managers of crucial operational flows, and the guardians of efficiency. He stressed the importance of a seamless operation that eliminates delays, reduces waste, and minimizes inefficiencies to ensure smooth movement of goods and services. This calls for efficient infrastructure, including functional ports, airports, warehouses, and road networks operational around the clock, supported by dedicated professionals committed to excellence. This is particularly relevant in the African context where leveraging technology and innovative supply chain solutions can enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

The implementation of a 24-hour economy is more than just a policy; it represents a business revolution, and the expertise of logistics and transport professionals is the bedrock upon which this revolution will be built. Their skill and dedication will be critical to the success of this ambitious undertaking.
