KnowBe4 Report Reveals Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities in African Industries

A new report from KnowBe4, a leading cybersecurity platform, paints a concerning picture of cybersecurity readiness in key African industries. The “Africa Human Risk Management Report 2025” highlights a significant disparity between how employers perceive their cybersecurity defenses and the actual experiences of their employees, potentially leading to costly cyberattacks. This discrepancy is particularly relevant in a continent experiencing rapid technological growth and digital transformation.

Mismatch Between Perception and Reality in African Cybersecurity

The report, which surveyed cybersecurity decision-makers across 30 African countries, underscores a critical issue: a misalignment between the perceived strengths of organizational cybersecurity and the reality on the ground. While employers may believe they have robust security protocols in place, the report suggests that employees may not feel adequately prepared or supported to handle cyber threats. This disconnect is particularly evident in high-growth sectors across Africa. For example, only a small percentage of cybersecurity leaders are confident that their staff would report a phishing attack or other cyber threat. This lack of confidence highlights a potential weakness in the human element of cybersecurity, which is often the most vulnerable point of entry for attackers. Addressing this issue requires a focus on employee training, awareness programs, and creating a culture where reporting threats is encouraged and easy. Understanding and bridging this gap is crucial for businesses to mitigate cyber risks effectively and protect their sensitive data and operations.
