Driving Innovation: Rehabilitating Digital and Creative Hubs in South West Nigeria
The Federal Government of Nigeria is advancing a transformative agenda for its technology and creative industries through the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) Programme. This ambitious initiative, supported by financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), is designed to promote entrepreneurship and spark innovation across the nation. The core objective of iDICE is to create sustainable jobs, enhance social development, and drive economic transformation by strategically fostering growth in Nigeria’s burgeoning digital and creative ecosystem. The programme will build upon existing brownfield investments and create powerful synergies with ongoing initiatives to maximize its impact on the African tech landscape.
Consultancy for Upgrading University Innovation Centres
A key pillar of the iDICE programme is Component 3, which focuses on creating a supportive and enabling environment where startups can thrive. Central to this objective is the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure. The programme is therefore seeking specialized consultancy services for the comprehensive design and supervision of work to revitalize Regional Digital and Creative Incubation Hubs. This particular project (Project ID No.: P-NG-K00-009) is centred on the Innovation Centres of Excellence within universities and polytechnics in Nigeria’s South West region. The selected consultant will be instrumental in transforming these existing facilities into modern, dynamic centres that can effectively nurture tech and creative talent, aligning with the terms outlined in the Financing Agreement (reference: 2000200005160).
The successful overhaul of these academic innovation hubs is more than just an infrastructure project; it is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s human capital. By providing students, entrepreneurs, and innovators with state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative ecosystem, this initiative will directly fuel the iDICE programme’s mission to foster entrepreneurship and generate high-value employment. This focused effort to enhance foundational infrastructure within educational institutions is vital for solidifying Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse in the African digital and creative economy, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of talent and world-class ideas for years to come.
