inDrive Distances Itself from Alleged Lagos Robbery and Stabbing Incident

A distressing incident in Lagos, involving the alleged robbery and stabbing of a lady identified as Akusionwu Ogechukwu Pascaline, has drawn significant attention to safety protocols within the ride-hailing sector. Initial reports circulating suggested a connection between the assailant and inDrive, a prominent ride-sharing service operating in Nigeria’s bustling commercial hub. However, in a definitive statement, inDrive has vehemently denied any responsibility, asserting that the unfortunate event did not originate from their digital platform. This declaration comes amidst growing concerns over user safety within the rapidly expanding African tech landscape, particularly concerning ride-hailing services in major cities like Lagos.

inDrive’s Official Position and Investigation Findings

Responding to inquiries from Technext regarding a series of reported incidents, including alleged assaults, harassment, and general unprofessional conduct linked to drivers purportedly operating on its network, inDrive addressed the specific case of Ms. Pascaline. A company spokesperson unequivocally stated that their internal investigation confirmed the ride in question was not booked or facilitated through the inDrive application. The spokesperson elaborated, “After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that the ride did not occur on the inDrive platform. All rides scheduled for that day were cancelled, and no contact was made with the drivers whose rides were impacted.” This strong denial underscores the company’s position that the incident falls outside the scope of transactions conducted via their legitimate booking system. The company’s response highlights the critical distinction between verified platform bookings and incidents that may occur independently, even if an individual is mistakenly associated with their brand. This distinction is crucial for accountability and ensuring user safety in the dynamic Lagos ride-hailing market.
