Onafriq Unveils Game-Changing Card Integration in Ghana

Onafriq, recognized as Africa’s largest digital payments network, has significantly enhanced the financial landscape in Ghana with the introduction of a new functionality. This innovative feature enables users to seamlessly transfer funds between their prepaid cards and mobile money wallets, providing unprecedented flexibility in managing their finances. This strategic development is poised to empower millions by offering more versatile ways to access and utilize their digital funds across various platforms.

Empowering Financial Connectivity and Access

This groundbreaking update revolutionizes how users interact with their money. Individuals can now effortlessly top up their prepaid cards directly from their mobile money wallets, and conversely, cash out funds from their prepaid cards into their mobile money wallets. A key benefit of this system is the ability to move money between these platforms, irrespective of which is considered their primary store of value. This seamless interoperability is made possible through crucial partnerships with leading financial institutions in Ghana: First Atlantic Bank (FAB) and Agricultural Development Bank (ADB). The essence of this integration is captured by Ike Anison, Country Director for Onafriq Ghana, who stated, “We know mobile money is the dominant store of value for millions of Africans, but it isn’t always accepted for all types of transactions.” He added, “By linking wallets to cards, we’re giving users more options to transact across both local and global ecosystems.” This initiative directly addresses a critical need in African markets, where mobile money penetration is high but card acceptance for certain transactions remains limited.

This strategic move by Onafriq is a clear indicator of a broader and accelerating trend within African fintech: the crucial bridging of previously disparate financial ecosystems. By connecting the ubiquitous mobile money infrastructure with the global reach of card networks, Onafriq is not only enhancing user convenience but also fostering greater financial inclusion. This integration marks a significant step towards a more interconnected and flexible digital payment environment across the continent, promising expanded financial possibilities for users and merchants alike.
