Empowering Women in Agriculture: Renewable Energy Training for Climate Resilience
The United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA) recently spearheaded an initiative to empower young women with the technological skills needed to revolutionize agricultural practices. Recognizing the critical role women play in African agriculture, the program aimed to equip them with the tools to develop climate-smart solutions.
Building Capacity for Sustainable Agriculture
A training workshop, themed “Renewable Energy Integration into Agritech Design for Climate-Smart Solutions,” brought together over 50 young women from across the country. The program focused on integrating renewable energy sources into agricultural technologies, fostering sustainability, increasing productivity, and championing gender-inclusive innovation within the sector. This initiative underscores the urgent need to address the challenges climate change poses to agriculture, particularly in Africa.
By equipping these young women with the skills to harness renewable energy in agricultural technologies, UNU-INRA is fostering a new generation of leaders who can drive sustainable and resilient agricultural practices across the continent. This proactive approach will not only enhance food security but also empower women to play a central role in shaping a climate-resilient future for African agriculture.
