Egypt’s Wuilt Raises $2M to Boost SMB Digitization in MENA
Cairo-based e-commerce enablement platform Wuilt has secured $2 million in funding to expand its free website builder service across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The investment, fueled by returning investors Flat6Labs and MTF VC, alongside Hub71, JIMCO (Abdul Latif Jameel’s venture capital arm), Purity Tech, and other angel investors, highlights the growing need for accessible digital solutions for small businesses in the region.
Wuilt’s Free Platform Empowers Merchants
Founded in 2019 by Ahmed Rostom and Mahmoud Metwaly, Wuilt initially gained significant traction within Egypt’s evolving e-commerce ecosystem. Demonstrating a commitment to accessibility, Wuilt made a strategic decision in April 2023 to offer its core platform for free within Egypt, removing all subscription fees. Despite the sacrifice of annual subscription revenue, this bold move attracted over 20,000 new merchants to the platform, indicating a strong demand for user-friendly and cost-effective digitization tools in the SMB sector.
With this new funding, Wuilt is positioned to further its mission of democratizing access to digital tools and empowering small businesses and social sellers throughout the MENA region. By providing a free and easy-to-use website builder, Wuilt is removing a significant barrier to entry for businesses looking to establish an online presence and participate in the digital economy.
