Annaba’s Cable Car to Seraïdi Returns After Five Years of Renovation
After being out of service for nearly five years due to extensive rehabilitation work, the cable car connecting the wilaya (province) capital of Annaba to the commune (municipality) of Seraïdi has been officially reopened. The relaunch, which occurred on Monday, July 21st, was overseen by the Minister of Transport, Saïd Sayoud, who was present in the region for a working visit. This is a significant infrastructure achievement for Annaba, and a relevant development for African tech and transport.
A Vital Transportation Link and Tourism Asset
The cable car system, originally constructed in 1986, is considered a crucial asset for the transportation infrastructure of both Annaba and Seraïdi. According to local officials, it plays a significant role in improving mobility and boosting tourism in the mountainous Seraïdi area.
The renovation project, covering a 4,150-meter route, involved comprehensive repairs and upgrades to the cable car’s infrastructure and technical equipment. This overhaul, according to the APS news agency, ensured that all components are fully restored for safe and efficient operation. This makes a good example of how African countries can embrace local tourism via tech.
