MoneyBadger Secures $400k to Expand Crypto Payments Across Africa

South African crypto payments startup MoneyBadger has successfully closed a $400,000 pre-seed funding round, paving the way for wider adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payments throughout the continent. The funding will be used to grow MoneyBadger’s partner network and explore new applications for Bitcoin payments in various countries, simplifying crypto transactions for both businesses and consumers.

Funding and Future Plans

The pre-seed round was spearheaded by P1 Ventures, with additional investment coming from three angel investors with significant experience in the Bitcoin and crypto space, one of whom has also invested in Bitcoin directly. This financial boost will allow MoneyBadger to onboard more retail partners and create seamless crypto payment experiences for shoppers and merchants alike. Founded in Stellenbosch by Carel van Wyk, Carl Kritzinger, Ben Blaine, and Brent Petersen, MoneyBadger is committed to providing a secure and user-friendly platform for Bitcoin transactions, whether online or in brick-and-mortar stores. Their technology leverages the speed and efficiency of the Bitcoin Lightning Network and integrates with nearly all major crypto wallet providers, enabling “tap-and-go” style payments via QR codes.

With this fresh capital injection, MoneyBadger is poised to significantly impact the adoption of cryptocurrency payments in South Africa and beyond, streamlining transactions and fostering greater financial inclusion through innovative technology.
