CRAG Advocates for GH¢10 Million EV Transition Fund to Revitalize Ghana’s Car Rental Sector

The Car Rental Association of Ghana (CRAG) is actively lobbying the government to create a GH¢10 million Electric Vehicle (EV) Transition Fund. This initiative aims to modernize the car rental industry, paving the way for a more sustainable and technologically advanced sector.

# Driving Sustainable Tourism Through Modernization

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, CRAG executives, led by President Michael Sarpong of St. Michael Car Rentals, met with the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie. The meeting focused on presenting proposals designed to transform the car rental industry into a significant contributor to sustainable tourism and overall economic development in Ghana. CRAG emphasized several key challenges currently facing the sector, including aging vehicle fleets, inadequate driver training programs, the proliferation of unregulated operators, and a deficiency in digital infrastructure. The Association believes that addressing these issues is crucial to unlocking the industry’s full potential and enhancing Ghana’s appeal as a tourism destination. As part of their comprehensive plan, CRAG also proposed the establishment of a dedicated Tourism Driving School to elevate driver skills and professionalism within the industry.

The establishment of this EV Transition Fund and the implementation of CRAG’s proposals could mark a turning point for Ghana’s car rental industry, fostering sustainable growth, attracting investment, and enhancing the overall tourism experience.
