Bank of Ghana Staff Strength Increases, Reflecting HR Investments

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) saw a 6% increase in its workforce during 2024, reaching a total of 2,368 employees by the close of December, according to the institution’s 2024 Annual Report and Financial Statement. This growth from 2,233 employees at the end of December 2023 highlights the bank’s focus on strengthening its operational capabilities and human resources. The report underscores a commitment to enhancing the Bank’s internal functions and optimizing its workforce to support its crucial role in Ghana’s financial ecosystem.

Strengthening Human Capital and Operational Efficiency

The BoG’s report details several key initiatives aimed at reinforcing its human resource (HR) capacity. The bank updated its Handbook on Human Resource Policies to ensure the practices remain relevant and effective in the evolving financial landscape. Further streamlining efforts included enhancements to the HR functions, notably the automation of staff job descriptions and competency profiles through its improved Performance Management System (ePMS). The bank experienced a significant intake of new personnel, with 201 staff members recruited in 2024. During the same period, 64 staff members departed the Bank’s service, resulting in a net addition of 137 employees. This suggests a focus on talent acquisition and retention to support the Bank’s strategic goals.

In summary, the expansion of BoG’s staff numbers coupled with its investment in HR infrastructure signifies a proactive approach to workforce development and operational efficiency. This positions the Bank to meet the demands of the banking sector and contribute to the stability and growth of Ghana’s financial system.
