Edo State Gears Up for API Integration with E-Hailing Services

The Edo State Government is taking steps to modernize its transportation sector by planning to introduce API integration for e-hailing giants like Bolt, Uber, and other ride-hailing platforms operating within the state. This initiative, revealed by Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor, the Managing Director of the Edo State Transport Authority (ESTA), at a recent Bolt driver safety summit in Benin City, signals a significant shift towards regulating and enhancing the e-hailing landscape.

E-Hailing Regulations on the Horizon

The API integration is part of a larger strategy to implement comprehensive e-hailing regulations in Edo State. According to Mrs. Agbonlahor, ESTA recognizes the paramount importance of safety in maintaining a thriving ride-hailing ecosystem. To that end, the authority has already drafted the necessary regulations, which are poised to become operational upon gazetting. These regulations aim to establish a clear framework for ride-hailing operations, promoting orderliness and addressing any misconduct within the industry.

By implementing API integration and establishing robust regulations, Edo State is positioning itself to create a safer, more organized, and ultimately more efficient e-hailing environment for both drivers and passengers. This move underscores the government’s commitment to embracing technological advancements and fostering innovation within its transport sector.
