MIT and Botswana Forge Partnership to Elevate Entrepreneurship in Africa

Cultivating Innovation: Key Components of the Partnership
The program’s kickoff involved a series of events held in Gaborone, designed to foster inspiration and support for Botswana’s emerging entrepreneurial leaders. The launch included the Early-Stage Entrepreneurship Program, which brought together 31 promising Botswana-based startups at the Botswana Digital and Innovation Hub (BDIH). Central to the initiative is the conviction that entrepreneurship isn’t merely about profit; it’s about fostering local agency and self-determination. The collaboration further emphasizes the significance of nurturing a vibrant ecosystem where startups can thrive. This project also includes the Foundry Fellowship Reunion which took place between MIT Kuo Sharper Center Executive Director Dina H. Sherif and BIUST Vice Chancellor Professor Otlogetswe Totolo. These elements will focus on providing training, mentorship, and resources necessary for entrepreneurs to navigate the complexities of launching and scaling their ventures.
