5G Officially Launches in Algeria: Ushering in a New Era of Connectivity

Algeria has officially entered the 5G era, signaling a significant advancement in its telecommunications infrastructure and digital economy. Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Sid Ali Zerrouki, announced the official launch on Wednesday evening in Algiers, marking a pivotal moment for the country’s connectivity and economic development. The launch ceremony, held at the Centre International de Conférences (CIC) Abdelatif-Rahal, gathered key government figures, including representatives from the presidency’s communications office, and executives from the three licensed 5G operators: Mobilis, Ooredoo, and Djezzy, alongside the regulatory authority (ARPCE).

A Decisive Step Towards Digital Transformation

Mr. Zerrouki emphasized the significance of the 5G launch, describing it as a “decisive step” towards modernizing Algeria’s telecommunications sector. This launch represents the commencement of a phased rollout designed to stimulate the digital economy. With the introduction of 5G, Algeria aims to improve internet speeds, enhance mobile connectivity, and foster the development of digital services across various sectors. The focus now shifts towards the gradual deployment of the technology by the licensed operators, as they work to expand coverage and offer enhanced services to both consumers and businesses. This development positions Algeria to be at the forefront of African countries embracing advanced mobile technology.

This milestone for Algeria’s tech landscape promises to reshape the country’s digital landscape, improve its global competitiveness, and unlock new opportunities for innovation and economic growth.
