Bowmans Strengthens Technology Focus with Strategic Partner Appointment

Leading African law firm Bowmans is doubling down on its commitment to the technology sector, announcing the appointment of Justin Ramages as a partner in its Johannesburg-based M&A Practice, effective December 1, 2025. This strategic hire signifies Bowmans’ intent to bolster its capabilities in advising clients navigating the complexities of technology-driven deals across the continent.

# Ramages Brings Telecoms Expertise to Bowmans

Ramages arrives at Bowmans from MTN South Africa, bringing invaluable firsthand experience in telecommunications-focused M&A transactions. His background provides a deep understanding of the nuances and challenges inherent in dealmaking within the dynamic telecoms industry, a crucial aspect of the African technology landscape. Prior to his role at MTN, Ramages honed his legal skills at ENSafrica, where he completed his articles and was admitted as an attorney in 2018, followed by a stint as a corporate attorney at another Johannesburg law firm. He also shares his expertise as a senior lecturer at the University of South Africa (Unisa), teaching administrative law.

Bowmans’ chairman and senior partner, Ezra Davids, emphasized the importance of the technology sector to the firm’s growth strategy, stating that technology, including telecommunications and fintech, represents a “critical growth area” and a “key focus sector.” He expressed confidence that Ramages’ expertise will be a valuable asset to Bowmans’ clients as the firm continues to expand its influence in this vital area. This appointment signals Bowmans’ proactive approach to meeting the increasing demand for specialized legal counsel in Africa’s rapidly evolving tech market.
