Google Commits $2.1 Million to Boost AI Talent in Nigeria

Google is making a significant investment in Nigeria’s technological future, announcing a $2.1 million (₦3 billion) commitment to fund various programs aimed at cultivating artificial intelligence (AI) talent within the country. This initiative underscores Google’s commitment to supporting the growth of the tech ecosystem in Africa and specifically addresses the need for skilled professionals in the burgeoning AI sector. The funding will be distributed across multiple Nigerian organizations focused on upskilling, fostering innovation, and strengthening cybersecurity capabilities.

In response to this announcement, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, noted that the intervention is occurring at a pivotal time as Nigeria seeks to capitalize on the projected economic benefits of the AI sector.
