Safaricom and ICT Authority Celebrate First Connect Academy Graduates, Fueling Kenya’s Digital Transformation

The Connect Academy, a collaborative initiative by Safaricom and the ICT Authority of Kenya, celebrated the graduation of its first cohort, comprising 48 students. This milestone marks a significant step in addressing the increasing need for skilled digital infrastructure professionals within Kenya, especially in areas like fibre deployment, supporting the nation’s rapid digital evolution.

Equipping Kenya with Digital Infrastructure Skills

Launched at the 2024 Connected Africa Summit, the Connect Academy is dedicated to equipping young Kenyans with the practical, industry-relevant skills necessary for fibre deployment and related technologies. The program’s curriculum is carefully aligned with the dynamic digital transformation occurring across Kenya. Safaricom’s CEO, Dr. Peter Ndegwa, emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting the company’s commitment to investing in future-ready skills, and expressing confidence in the graduating class’s ability to drive Kenya’s digitally led future. The inaugural cohort’s selection process included existing Safaricom technicians, referrals from the Connected Africa Summit, and community applicants, demonstrating the program’s commitment to broad inclusivity.

The graduation of this first cohort represents a pivotal moment in Kenya’s journey towards a digitally empowered future. The skills gained by these graduates are crucial for expanding and maintaining the nation’s digital infrastructure, thus fostering economic growth and enabling greater access to information and opportunities for all Kenyans.
