BoG Charts Path for Inclusive, Secure Digital Payments Under 2025 Strategy
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) is embarking on a new five-year journey to fortify Ghana’s digital financial ecosystem. This initiative, driven by the National Payment Systems Strategy (2025–2029), aims to foster a more robust, inclusive, and globally competitive payments landscape within the nation. The strategy was unveiled during the National Payment Systems Workshop in Accra on October 29, 2025.
Focus on Resilience and Inclusivity
First Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni emphasized that this new strategy signifies a transformation, presenting an opportunity to reimagine payment systems to better serve Ghana’s evolving digital economy. He highlighted the significant strides made under the preceding 2019–2024 strategy, which saw the expansion of digital payment channels, increased interoperability, and reinforced regulatory frameworks.
This strategic shift signals the BoG’s commitment to building a future where digital payments are not only secure and efficient but also accessible to all Ghanaians, contributing to broader financial inclusion and economic growth. The focus will be on leveraging technology to create a payment ecosystem that is resilient to shocks and competitive on the global stage.
