Access Holdings’ Hydrogen Quadruples Profit Amidst Remarkable Transaction Surge
Hydrogen, the dynamic fintech subsidiary of Access Holdings, has demonstrated an extraordinary financial performance, reporting a staggering 305.88% surge in profit during the first half of 2025. This propelled its earnings to ₦966 million ($664,928), a significant leap from the ₦238 million ($163,823) recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. This impressive growth underscores Hydrogen’s escalating influence and robust operational efficiency within the competitive African digital payments ecosystem, fueled by an exponential increase in transaction volumes.
Hydrogen’s Stellar Financial Ascent and Market Position
The phenomenal profit growth by Hydrogen was directly underpinned by an astonishing 197.83% increase in its transaction value, which soared to an impressive ₦41.1 trillion ($28.29 billion) in H1 2025, up from ₦13.8 trillion ($9.49 billion) in the first half of 2024. This massive transactional activity highlights the widespread adoption and trust in Hydrogen’s platform. Concurrently, the fintech’s operating income experienced a substantial rise of 31.8% year-on-year, reaching ₦4.19 billion ($2.88 million). While operating expenses also saw an increase, climbing by 9.6% to ₦3.23 billion ($2.22 million), the growth in revenue significantly outpaced that of expenses, signaling efficient management and scalability. According to Access Holdings’ latest financial disclosures, Hydrogen firmly maintains its standing as the second most profitable bank-backed digital payments entity. It trails only GTCO’s HabariPay, which reported ₦4.02 billion ($2.77 million), and stands ahead of Stanbic IBTC’s Zest, which recently announced its inaugural profit of ₦543 million ($373,764) in Q3 2025, further illustrating the vibrant and evolving landscape of Nigerian fintech.
Hydrogen’s exceptional financial results not only showcase its operational prowess but also solidify its position as a dominant force in the rapidly expanding African fintech sector. This remarkable growth trajectory, driven by burgeoning transaction values and strategic operational efficiency, firmly establishes Hydrogen as a key contributor to Access Holdings’ overall success and a leading innovator in digital payments.
