Abyssinia Bank Achieves Record-Breaking Growth, Assets Reach 286.2 Billion Birr
Abyssinia Bank has announced a year of exceptional financial performance, posting record growth with total assets surging to 286.2 billion birr (approximately $5.1 billion). This represents a significant 28.8% increase compared to the previous fiscal year (2017 E.C. or 2024/25 Gregorian calendar). The bank’s performance, revealed at its 29th regular and 16th extraordinary shareholders meeting, underscores its position as one of the fastest-growing private financial institutions in Ethiopia, driven by substantial gains in income, profitability, and the expansion of its digital infrastructure.
Profitability Skyrockets and Capital Base Strengthens
A key highlight of the year was the dramatic increase in net profit, which soared to 10.1 billion birr – a remarkable 91.1% jump from the year before. This surge in profitability was fueled by a combination of increased interest income, a strong loan portfolio, and a growing customer base. Overall income for the fiscal year also saw impressive growth, reaching 39.1 billion birr, up from 27.8 billion birr in the preceding year. Complementing this financial strength, Abyssinia Bank’s capital base experienced substantial growth, reaching 28.8 billion birr, further solidifying its capacity for future expansion and innovation in the Ethiopian banking sector.
Abyssinia Bank’s outstanding performance reflects its commitment to strategic growth and investment, positioning it as a key player in Ethiopia’s evolving financial landscape. This robust growth not only benefits the bank itself but also contributes to the overall economic development of the region, demonstrating the potential of private sector financial institutions in driving progress within the African context.
