Telecel Responds to Minority’s Accusations Regarding AT Ghana Involvement

Telecel has issued a strong response to allegations made by the Minority in parliament concerning its participation in the current difficulties faced by AT Ghana, a prominent telecommunications provider in Ghana. The company maintains its actions are fully compliant with regulatory requirements and are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted service for its vast customer base. This statement comes after the Minority’s press conference, which voiced concerns regarding Telecel’s financial stability, perceived political influence, and accusations of a hidden agenda to acquire AT Ghana through questionable practices.

# Clarifying Telecel’s Role in the AT Ghana Situation

In its press statement, Telecel sought to refute what it called “misleading claims” put forth by the Minority. The company’s involvement with AT Ghana, according to Telecel, is the direct result of instructions from the National Communications Authority (NCA). This intervention followed the shutdown of AT Ghana’s network sites in August by ATC Ghana due to outstanding debts. Telecel emphasized that its actions are not driven by any ulterior motives but rather by a commitment to the continuity of telecommunications services for AT Ghana’s users.

Telecel’s engagement stems from a directive by the NCA after the shutdown of AT’s network sites by ATC Ghana in August due to unpaid debts.

In response, Telecel was directed to migrate network traffic from AT Ghana to ensure continuity of services.

In essence, Telecel claims its actions are reactive and guided by regulatory bodies and are designed to solve the problem quickly for consumers and business and not a move to take over the company.
