Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Partners with Qatar for Staff Development
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has forged a significant partnership with the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), solidifying an agreement for staff attachments and secondments. This collaboration, announced on October 17, 2025, marks a strategic move by the GCAA to bolster the capabilities of its personnel through exposure to international best practices. This initiative is particularly relevant in the African aviation context, where continuous skill development is crucial for maintaining safe and efficient air travel, as many African nations focus on expanding their air transport infrastructure.
Boosting Aviation Expertise Through Global Collaboration
The core of this agreement centers on enhancing the capacity and professional skills of GCAA employees. The arrangement allows GCAA staff to be attached to the QCAA for up to three weeks, providing invaluable hands-on experience in crucial operational areas. These include aerodrome and safety, air traffic management, human resources, aeronautical and air navigation services, communications, personnel licensing, security, finance, and other essential aviation disciplines. This comprehensive approach ensures that GCAA staff gain a well-rounded understanding of global aviation standards. The agreement was negotiated by the Acting Director-General of the GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, during a meeting with Mohamed bin Al-Hajri, the Director-General of the QCAA, conducted at the ICAO General Assembly.
This partnership underscores the GCAA’s commitment to continuous improvement and its dedication to providing its workforce with the tools and knowledge necessary to meet the evolving demands of the aviation industry. Through this exchange, the GCAA aims to enhance operational efficiency and maintain the highest standards of safety and security within Ghana’s airspace, contributing to the development of a more robust aviation sector within Africa.
