MTN MoMo Revolutionizes Cross-Border Payments in Africa

MTN Group Fintech, the financial services arm of the leading African telecom operator, is making significant strides in simplifying cross-border payments through its mobile money platform, MoMo. In the initial six months of 2025, MoMo successfully facilitated international remittances totaling $2.1 billion across 14 African markets. This achievement underscores MTN’s commitment to transforming the continent’s financial landscape.

Building a Borderless African Payment Ecosystem

CEO Serigne Dioum envisions MoMo as the cornerstone of a borderless payment ecosystem across Africa. In an interview with TechCabal, Dioum highlighted the company’s core vision: creating a financial world that is seamless, accessible, and secure. He emphasized that the platform empowers both individuals and businesses to better manage their finances while accessing essential services. Dioum believes that the narrative around financial inclusion in Africa must evolve beyond mere access to financial tools. Instead, the focus should shift towards assisting individuals in building wealth and achieving economic empowerment, making payments an integral part of their daily lives.

MTN’s MoMo strategy is focused on simplicity and accessibility.

In this context, MTN MoMo is actively simplifying cross-border payments.

MTN’s efforts are crucial for boosting financial inclusion and driving economic development across the continent.
