This marks a significant milestone for Kenyan tech innovation and female empowerment within the sector.
Innovation Driving Financial Inclusion in Kenya
The team, known as Avytria, consists of women aged 21 to 26. Their winning solution addresses a critical need within the Kenyan economy: financial tools designed specifically for gig economy workers and individuals with disabilities. Jasho-Powering Your Hustle utilizes artificial intelligence to provide real-time expenditure tracking, customized financial guidance, and effective fraud prevention measures. A standout feature of the platform is its commitment to inclusivity; it offers accessibility features like facial recognition and voice command functionality, ensuring that all Kenyans can benefit from its capabilities. This thoughtful approach highlights a growing trend of inclusive technology development within Africa. The national-level hackathon, which preceded the continental finals, saw participation from 112 women between 18 and 35, all tackling the overarching theme of “Future-Proofing Africa: Innovation at the Intersection.”
The participation of Team Avytria exemplifies the growing talent and innovative spirit within Kenya’s tech community, especially among women. Their success at the continental hackathon would not only be a victory for them but also a major boost for the Kenyan tech sector, showcasing the nation’s ability to create cutting-edge, accessible solutions for critical financial challenges.
