Ghana and Namibia Collaborate to Enhance Aviation Safety

Ghana and Namibia are engaging in discussions to establish a formal agreement aimed at bolstering aviation safety standards in both countries. The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB) of Ghana is currently in talks with Namibia’s Directorate of Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation to create a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration signifies a commitment to strengthening regional aviation safety through shared expertise and resources.

Deepening Cooperation for Regional Resilience

A Namibian delegation, headed by Acting Director Philippine Lundama, is presently in Accra to thoroughly examine Ghana’s established accident investigation protocols. The visit aims to identify opportunities for technical collaboration, focusing on key areas such as effective wreckage management, comprehensive operational manuals, appropriate protective equipment for investigators, and the utilization of specialized investigative tools. According to John M.K. Wumborti, Acting Commissioner of AIB Ghana, this partnership is crucial for building regional resilience in aviation safety. He emphasized that these collaborations are not just strategic alliances but are vital for the continued growth of both organizations in terms of technical competence, operational efficiency, and investigative proficiency.

This potential MoU between Ghana and Namibia underscores the importance of international cooperation in maintaining and improving aviation safety standards across the African continent. By sharing knowledge and resources, both nations aim to create a safer and more secure aviation environment for their citizens and the broader region.
