PaidHR Secures $1.8M to Enhance Financial Inclusion for Africa’s Workforce

Nigerian HR tech innovator, PaidHR, has successfully closed a $1.8 million seed funding round, spearheaded by Accion Venture Lab. This significant investment is earmarked for the expansion of its sophisticated payroll and earned wage access (EWA) platform throughout the African continent. Additional contributions to the round came from notable investors including Zrosk, Chui Ventures, and Zedcrest Capital, signaling strong confidence in PaidHR’s mission to revolutionize financial services for the region’s diverse workforce.

Empowering Africa’s Underserved Workforce

The urgency for solutions like PaidHR’s is underscored by the unique dynamics of Africa’s labor market. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the continent’s economy, with an estimated 44 million businesses providing approximately 80% of all jobs. Many of these SMEs, however, still rely on manual human resource processes and, due to their often informal nature, struggle to offer essential HR and financial benefits to their employees. This challenge is further compounded by the fact that half of all new global labor force entrants by 2030 are projected to come from Sub-Saharan Africa. The impact of this informal structure is stark: in Nigeria, a staggering 83% of the workforce lacks access to crucial credit, leaving them vulnerable when facing emergency or basic needs. PaidHR, founded in Lagos in 2020 by Seye Bandele and Lekan Omotosho, directly addresses these critical gaps. The company aims to digitize payroll operations for these businesses while simultaneously providing employees with vital financial tools, including access to credit, opportunities for USD savings, and the flexibility of early salary withdrawals. Currently, PaidHR extends its services across Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, laying a foundational step towards broader regional impact.

This strategic capital injection will empower PaidHR to significantly scale its reach, bringing modern HR and financial solutions to millions of African employees. By digitizing payroll and offering crucial financial services, PaidHR is poised to play a pivotal role in fostering greater financial inclusion and economic stability for the continent’s rapidly expanding and evolving labor force, bridging the gap between informal employment and accessible financial empowerment.
