Senegal Invests $233 Million in AI-Focused Teacher Training Program

Senegal is taking a significant leap into the digital age with a substantial $233 million program designed to upskill educators in the fields of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI). This ambitious project, launched by the Ministry of National Education (MEN) on September 30th, aims to modernize the nation’s education system and equip over 105,000 teachers and school administrators with the necessary skills to navigate the rapidly evolving technological landscape. This initiative is a pivotal step in Senegal’s Education Digital Strategy, spanning from 2025 to 2029.

Program Details and Scope

The program, representing the first phase of the Education Digital Strategy, goes beyond teacher training. It includes the distribution of computers to students specifically enrolled in science-related courses. The project follows a cooperation agreement established in March 2025 between the MEN and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. The training will be accessible online, designed to accommodate a variety of devices, including computers, tablets, and smartphones. The curriculum will leverage interactive lessons, self-paced modules, and certification exams to facilitate effective learning. The core objective is to empower educators with the skills to integrate technology into their teaching methods, adapt to new learning models, and guide students in understanding digital and AI concepts. This is a crucial investment in Senegal’s future, as it works to equip its educators and students with the tools needed to succeed in the modern world.
