French Appliance Giant Brandt Under Judicial Redress: A Cevital Subsidiary Faces Challenges
Brandt, a prominent French manufacturer of household appliances and a subsidiary of the Algerian conglomerate Cevital for over a decade, has been placed under judicial receivership. The decision, made by the Nanterre commercial court on October 1st, casts a shadow over the future of one of France’s last remaining domestic appliance producers.
Seeking a Partner for Financial Stability
The Brandt Group confirmed the court’s decision to initiate judicial receivership for both the Group and its French arm, Brandt France. This move aims to attract a strategic partner capable of providing the necessary financial support to ensure the company’s long-term viability. Brandt, employing approximately 750 people in France, owns well-known brands such as Vedette, Sauter, and De Dietrich. The company operates four factories in France, including two in the Centre-Val de Loire region specializing in cooking appliances, and two in the Paris region. Cevital, a private Algerian group, acquired Brandt in 2014.
The judicial receivership highlights the challenges faced by European manufacturers in a competitive global market. The search for a partner represents a critical juncture for Brandt, as it seeks to secure its future and maintain its presence in the French appliance industry.
