Streamlining Micro-Import Regulations in Algeria to Boost E-Commerce
The Algerian government is actively working to refine the regulatory framework governing micro-import activities, often referred to as “cabas commerce,” in response to concerns raised by stakeholders. This initiative was announced by Noureddine Ouadah, the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Micro-enterprises, during a study day on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in e-commerce, which he attended alongside the Minister of Youth, Mustapha Hidaoui.
Addressing Stakeholder Concerns in Micro-Import
Minister Ouadah emphasized his ministry’s commitment to improving the current micro-import landscape. He stated that collaborative meetings with relevant ministries will be scheduled to discuss all pertinent issues, incorporating feedback gathered directly from importers. “We are attentive to all concerns raised regarding this important subject,” he declared, according to the APS (Algeria Press Service), further assuring that “measures will be taken to address them.” This proactive approach signals the government’s intention to foster a more supportive and efficient environment for micro-enterprises involved in import activities, crucial for the growth of e-commerce and the wider Algerian economy.
By actively listening to and addressing the challenges faced by micro-importers, the Algerian government aims to create a more robust and accessible e-commerce ecosystem, potentially fostering greater economic participation and innovation.
