Speaking at a maritime stakeholder forum focused on improving Ghana’s seaborne trade competitiveness, Minister of Transport Joseph Bukari Nikpe highlighted how opaque processes, hidden charges, and general inefficiencies are negatively impacting investor confidence and eroding the nation’s competitive edge in the maritime sector. Represented by his deputy, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the Minister stressed that predictability, transparency, and trust are as vital as efficiency in guaranteeing success. This call to action comes even after recent port expansion and digitisation projects, suggesting that infrastructural development alone is insufficient to address the underlying issues hindering Ghana’s maritime sector.
