Ghana Prioritizes Safe, Sustainable Aviation at ICAO Assembly

Ghana Reaffirms Strong Commitment to Aviation Safety and Sustainability at ICAO Assembly

Ghana is making a significant mark at the 42nd Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), currently underway in Montréal, Canada, from September 23 to October 3, 2025. A high-level Ghanaian delegation, led by the Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, is actively participating in this crucial global forum. Ghana’s presence underscores its unwavering dedication to advancing international aviation safety and security standards, alongside pioneering sustainable practices within the sector.

Ghana’s Strategic Engagement in Global Aviation Dialogue

The Ghanaian delegation to the ICAO Assembly is comprised of key figures shaping the nation’s aviation landscape. Minister Nikpe is accompanied by John M.K. Wumborti, the Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB); Stephen Wilfred Arthur, the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA); and Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). This collective expertise highlights Ghana’s comprehensive approach to aviation governance. The ICAO Assembly, hosted by Canada, serves as the premier global platform for governments and aviation stakeholders to deliberate on the future trajectory of international civil aviation. Ghana’s participation is particularly focused on strengthening its commitment to aviation safety and security, as well as championing the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has indicated that the nation is well-positioned to lead efforts in SAF adoption, marking a proactive step towards greener aviation practices on the African continent and globally.

Through its active engagement, Ghana is not only reinforcing its adherence to international best practices but also positioning itself as a leader in sustainable aviation development. This strategic involvement at the ICAO Assembly reflects Ghana’s forward-thinking vision for its aviation sector, aiming to ensure safe, secure, and environmentally responsible air travel for the future.
