Ghana Reinforces Nuclear Safety and Technology Collaboration in Vienna
Ghana has reiterated its dedication to the safe and peaceful application of nuclear energy during the 69th Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, held in Vienna, Austria, from September 15-19, 2025. Richard Gyan Mensah, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, headed Ghana’s delegation to this significant global event.
Commitment to Nuclear Advancement
The IAEA General Conference, a yearly assembly, draws representatives from more than 150 member states, along with international collaborators and specialists in the nuclear field. The primary focus is to assess the advancements made worldwide in nuclear science, technology, and safety protocols. During his address, Deputy Minister Gyan Mensah honored the memory of Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the late Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, who was originally slated to lead the delegation. Gyan Mensah also outlined Ghana’s strategic plan for nuclear energy, emphasizing the government’s strong commitment to utilizing nuclear science and technology as a catalyst for national development.
Ghana’s active participation in the IAEA General Conference underscores its commitment to advancing nuclear capabilities responsibly and safely, potentially positioning the nation as a key player in the future of African energy solutions.
