Bolivia’s Embrace of Cryptocurrency
Bolivia has experienced a significant decline in its foreign exchange reserves, plummeting from $12.7 billion in 2014 to a mere $171 million by August 2025, representing a 98% decrease. This economic pressure prompted the Bolivian government to reverse its stance on cryptocurrency, lifting a previous ban in June 2024 and recognizing virtual assets as a means to facilitate trade and investment. BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer with growing influence in Latin America, alongside Toyota and Yamaha, are leveraging this regulatory shift by accepting USDT.
