Uber’s Nigerian Investment Fuels ₦6.1 Billion Annual Payout for Drivers

Global mobility platform Uber has reinforced its significant economic impact in Nigeria, revealing a total investment of ₦34 billion into the local market. This substantial commitment has directly empowered its driver-partners, boosting their collective annual earnings to an impressive ₦6.1 billion as of 2023. These figures were unveiled in Uber’s Nigeria Economic Impact Report, which was conducted by Public First. The report underscores the ride-hailing giant’s growing role in the nation’s economy, providing crucial income opportunities for thousands of drivers while enhancing urban mobility for riders.

Advancing Dialogue on Road Safety and Inclusivity

The findings were presented during the Lagos Road Mobility Summit, an event organized by Uber in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Transport. The summit, themed “Reimagining an Inclusive Road Safety Strategy,” served as a high-level platform for advancing dialogue on creating safer and more accessible transport systems. It convened a powerful assembly of stakeholders, including senior government officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). The event also featured participation from global safety experts, private sector leaders, and representatives from the World Bank’s SSATP team, highlighting a collaborative approach to tackling Nigeria’s complex mobility challenges.

Uber’s strategic investment and its proactive engagement with regulatory bodies signal a dual commitment to both economic growth and public welfare. The ₦34 billion contribution not only stimulates the economy and supports drivers but also lays the groundwork for collaborative efforts to build a more sustainable and secure transportation future for Nigeria. By bringing key decision-makers to the table, the company is helping to shape policies that will benefit all road users across the country.
