Tanzania’s MazaoHub Secures $2M to Propel AI-Powered Smart Farming Across Africa

Tanzania’s innovative agri-tech startup, MazaoHub, is set to revolutionize agriculture across the continent after successfully closing an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round, raising an impressive $2 million. The company, which masterfully integrates artificial intelligence with practical agronomic expertise, is dedicated to advancing climate-smart farming practices. This substantial capital injection is earmarked to significantly scale its AI-powered Smart Farming solutions throughout Africa, addressing critical challenges faced by farmers and agribusinesses alike.

Strategic Investment Fuels Expansion and Farmer Empowerment

The $2 million raise comprises a strategic blend of $1.5 million in equity and an additional $500,000 in non-dilutive capital. The equity portion saw leadership from Catalyst Fund, with strong participation from notable investors including Nordic Impact Fund, Mercy Corps Ventures, elea Foundation, Impacc, and DOB Equity. The non-dilutive capital was provided by the Livelihood Impact Fund, underscoring a growing trend among investors to deploy blended finance models for climate adaptation initiatives. This diverse backing highlights robust confidence in MazaoHub’s vision and its potential to drive significant impact. Geophrey Tenganamba, CEO and Co-Founder of MazaoHub, articulated the company’s transformative approach, stating, “Farmers become data-driven decision-makers, buyers gain trusted traceability, and agribusinesses operate as climate-smart franchises. This is where sustainability meets scale.” The newly acquired funds are critical for accelerating the production of MazaoHub’s accessible low-cost soil kits and advanced sensors. Furthermore, the investment will facilitate the expansion of its vital network of Farmer Excellence Centers and finance the extensive rollout of CropSupply.com, an initiative designed to enhance supply chain efficiency and transparency.

This strategic financial boost positions MazaoHub as a key player in Africa’s agri-tech landscape, poised to empower millions of smallholder farmers with cutting-edge technology. By equipping farmers with AI-driven insights and essential tools, MazaoHub is not only fostering climate resilience but also building a more sustainable and profitable agricultural ecosystem. The investment signifies a crucial step towards ensuring food security and economic growth in the region, solidifying the role of technology in transforming African agriculture for a brighter, more sustainable future.
