Access Bank and NBK Unveil Integrated Branch Network for Enhanced Customer Access in Kenya
Access Bank Kenya’s strategic expansion in East Africa has reached a significant milestone. Following its acquisition of National Bank of Kenya (NBK), the two prominent financial institutions have now initiated the integration of their operations. This crucial development means that customers of both Access Bank and NBK can now seamlessly utilize a unified network of more than 100 branches across Kenya. This marks a substantial step towards delivering a more cohesive and accessible banking experience throughout the country.
Strategic Integration Paves Way for Seamless Banking Services
This operational integration enables customers to perform routine financial transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, and account enquiries, at any of the combined locations nationwide. As confirmed by Access Bank earlier this week, this represents the inaugural major operational step since the Nigerian banking giant finalized its acquisition of NBK. Ralph Opara, Access Kenya country director, underscored the customer-centric vision driving this initiative, stating, “By opening our networks to each other’s customers, we are ensuring that banking is simpler, faster, and more accessible.” The journey to this point commenced in May, when Access Bank successfully completed the $100 million acquisition of NBK from Kenya’s KCB Group. At the time of the acquisition, management had indicated that both banks would continue to operate independently during an interim period, pending full integration. NBK brings a robust nationwide branch infrastructure, boasting a presence in nearly all of Kenya’s 47 counties, alongside a strong portfolio of high-value corporate and public sector clients, thereby complementing Access Bank’s strategic growth ambitions in the region.
