Canal+ Secures MultiChoice Control, Unveiling New Leadership for a Global Media Powerhouse

French media giant Canal+ has officially completed its mandatory takeover of MultiChoice Group, with all regulatory requirements satisfied and the offer declared unconditional. This landmark acquisition solidifies Canal+’s effective control over the leading African pay-TV operator, marking a pivotal moment in the global media and entertainment industry, particularly across the African continent. The finalization of this deal heralds a new era for both companies, setting the stage for an integrated entity with expanded reach and influence.

Leadership Transitions and Strategic Integration

This strategic move represents Canal+’s largest-ever acquisition, creating an formidable global media entity that will serve over 40 million subscribers across nearly 70 countries spanning Africa, Europe, and Asia. The integration brings with it a significant leadership shakeup designed to streamline operations and leverage the combined strengths of both groups. David Mignot has been appointed CEO of Canal+’s African operations, a crucial role that will now encompass MultiChoice. Nicolas Dandoy steps in as the new CFO for the integrated African business. Maxime Saada, the current Canal+ Group CEO, will extend his responsibilities to become the executive chairman of the newly integrated company, overseeing its strategic direction. In a move to ensure continuity and harness expertise, Calvo Mawela, MultiChoice’s outgoing CEO, will transition to serve as chairman of Canal+’s African operations. Similarly, Timothy Jacobs, MultiChoice’s outgoing CFO, will take on a senior finance role within the newly combined group. The board of directors will also see a fresh composition, blending key executives from Canal+ to drive the future vision of the unified organization.

The successful completion of this takeover not only redefines the competitive landscape of African broadcasting but also positions the combined Canal+ and MultiChoice entity as a dominant force in the global pay-TV and streaming market. With its vast subscriber base and robust operational structure, the new media powerhouse is poised to deliver enhanced content and services, further shaping the future of entertainment access across diverse regions, with Africa remaining a core strategic focus.
