La Marsa Pioneers Healthcare Innovation with Tunisia’s First Traditional Chinese Medicine Training Center

Friday, September 19, 2025, marked a significant milestone for healthcare in Tunisia, as Monji Slim Hospital in La Marsa unveiled a series of upgraded medical units and services. The inauguration, overseen by Minister of Health Mustapha Farjani, showcased a substantial investment in modernizing the hospital’s infrastructure and adopting cutting-edge technology. According to Hospital Director General Nozha Moussa, the ambitious renovation project included the complete rehabilitation of operating rooms and the completion of the first phase of the emergency department, representing an investment of 1.9 million dinars. Further enhancing diagnostic capabilities, a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit was commissioned at a cost of 5 million dinars, while the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology into the hospital’s systems signifies a forward-thinking approach, backed by an investment of 400,000 dinars.

Tunisia’s First National TCM Training Hub

Beyond the state-of-the-art technological and facility upgrades, Director General Moussa also announced a groundbreaking initiative: the opening of the first national training center dedicated to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This pioneering center is poised to revolutionize medical education in Tunisia by providing a vital space for practical training, complementing the theoretical studies already offered at the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis. Designed to be accessible to all healthcare professionals from every governorate across the country, this center underscores a progressive vision for healthcare, integrating diverse therapeutic approaches into the national medical framework. It represents a strategic move to broaden the scope of available treatments and enhance the skills of medical practitioners, preparing them to address patient needs with a more holistic and culturally informed perspective. This development positions Tunisia as a leader in embracing integrated medical practices within the African healthcare landscape.

These comprehensive developments at Monji Slim Hospital signify a profound commitment to advancing healthcare quality and access in La Marsa and across Tunisia. By simultaneously investing in advanced diagnostic tools like MRI, leveraging the power of artificial intelligence, and establishing a national center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tunisia is charting a course towards a future-ready, holistic healthcare system. This integrated approach, blending modern medical technology with ancient healing wisdom, not only elevates the standard of patient care but also establishes a robust framework for continuous medical education and innovation, poised to benefit communities nationwide and potentially serve as a model for regional healthcare evolution.
