Green ORC: Algerian Agritech Startup Wins Green Impact Bootcamp
Algeria’s Green ORC, an agritech startup focusing on innovative solutions for agriculture, secured first place at the third annual Green Impact Bootcamp in Algiers. This event highlights startups dedicated to green technology and sustainable development. Green ORC’s victory underscores the growing importance of technology in modernizing agriculture across the African continent.
Data-Driven Farming for Sustainable Agriculture
Nada Boutaoui, an AI engineer and the founder of Green ORC, presented a technological solution that utilizes spatial data, sensors, and drones to optimize crop yields while simultaneously protecting soil quality. According to the Algerian Press Service (APS), the system generates precise plans for irrigation, fertilization, and crop rotation. Boutaoui explained that their innovation provides farmers with an interactive dashboard to monitor this data in real-time. Currently, the project is undergoing a pilot phase in the Biskra region of Algeria.
Green ORC’s ambition is to partner with the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant stakeholders in the agricultural sector. By leveraging data-driven insights, Green ORC aims to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient agricultural landscape in Algeria and potentially beyond, providing a model for agritech innovation across Africa.
