Babajide Duroshola Steps Down as Safeboda Nigeria Country Manager After Transformative Two-Year Tenure
Babajide Duroshola, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s burgeoning tech ecosystem, has officially concluded his role as the Country Manager for Safeboda Nigeria. The Ibadan-based bike-hailing startup announced his departure, which Babajide himself revealed in a reflective Medium post. His exit marks the end of a pivotal two-year period during which he spearheaded Safeboda’s ambitious expansion from its East African roots into the competitive Nigerian market, laying significant groundwork for its future growth within the African tech landscape.
A Legacy of Growth and Innovation in Nigerian Mobility
Taking the reins on May 6, 2019, Babajide Duroshola embraced the clear mandate to transform Safeboda into a pan-African entity, with Nigeria as its crucial first step. “On the 6th of May 2019, I took the job to be Safeboda’s first-ever Country Director and the mission was clear, take Safeboda from an East African company to being a pan-African company starting with the expansion to Nigeria,” he recalled. Over the subsequent 26 months, his leadership proved instrumental in solidifying this vision. Under his guidance, Safeboda Nigeria achieved remarkable milestones, including the completion of over 1.5 million trips in Ibadan alone and the successful onboarding of more than 5,000 driver-partners. Beyond just ride-hailing, the platform diversified its offerings, launching essential fintech features such as cashless payments, airtime purchases, and driver buy-now-pay-later schemes, enhancing value for both customers and drivers. Furthermore, Babajide was key in forging strategic partnerships with significant players like Paddycover, Allianz, and Imalipay, bolstering Safeboda’s ecosystem and reach. He expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Over the last 26 months, I have kept building to solidify that vision and today I hold my head high as I stepped down a week ago from the reins at Safeboda.”
Babajide Duroshola’s departure signals a leadership transition at Safeboda Nigeria, but his impact remains undeniable. His tenure was characterized by a relentless drive to innovate and scale, establishing a robust operational framework and a strong market presence in Nigeria’s dynamic mobility sector. He leaves behind a legacy of significant achievement, having successfully navigated the complexities of market entry and growth, contributing immensely to Safeboda’s journey towards becoming a leading pan-African tech enterprise.
