Africa’s burgeoning film industry, Nollywood, is celebrating a significant win as producers are now reaping greater financial rewards thanks to Circuits, a leading virtual cinema and digital entertainment platform. Circuits, which has quickly risen to become Nigeria’s largest Virtual Cinema and Transactional Video-on-Demand (TVOD) streaming platform, is sharing its success, proving that streaming can be a lucrative avenue for African filmmakers.
Performance-Based Payouts Boost Nollywood Income
Circuits has announced that at least four Nollywood producers who have content on their platform have received additional payouts beyond their initial minimum guarantees and licensing fees. This innovative approach ties earnings directly to the performance of their films. Producers are entitled to a substantial revenue share, ensuring they benefit from the continued success of their movies on the platform. This represents a departure from traditional licensing models and empowers creators to earn more based on viewership. Since launching in December 2024, Circuits has experienced impressive growth, amassing millions of unique streams from viewers in over 170 countries spanning every continent. The platform’s library has expanded beyond Nollywood to include films from Francophone Africa and Uganda, further solidifying its position as a key player in the African digital entertainment landscape. The company anticipates further accelerated growth in the coming weeks.
