Lagos Aims to Be Africa’s Digital Launchpad at GITEX Nigeria

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has positioned Nigeria’s bustling commercial capital as the premier “launchpad for Africa’s tomorrow” as GITEX Nigeria, the largest technology, artificial intelligence, and startup event in West Africa, commenced its activities. The event’s focus is to drive the continent’s digital transformation.

# Lagos: The Epicenter of Nigerian Tech Innovation

This year’s GITEX Nigeria, a four-day event running from September 1st to 4th, is being held across both Abuja and Lagos. It convenes key stakeholders including policymakers, investors, and burgeoning startups to collectively map out the future of Africa’s digital landscape. Lagos is playing host to two significant showcases: the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo & Future Economy Conference at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre, and the GITEX Nigeria Startup Festival at the Landmark Centre. Lagos’s claim as a regional tech hub is supported by significant foreign investment, having attracted $6 billion in tech funding between 2019 and 2024. The city boasts advanced technological infrastructure, including hyperscale data centers and extensive fiber optic networks, and receives over 70% of Nigeria’s total tech investment. Furthermore, according to the Financial Times, 23 out of Nigeria’s 28 fastest-growing companies are based in Lagos.

Lagos’s strategic focus on technology and innovation, amplified by events like GITEX Nigeria, solidifies its position as a key driver of digital transformation across the African continent. The concentration of investment, infrastructure, and high-growth companies within the state creates a fertile ground for startups and established tech players alike, promising a dynamic future for the region’s digital economy.
