WIPO Launches Regional Office in Algeria to Boost Innovation in Africa and the Arab World
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has officially inaugurated its first regional office in the Arab world and Africa, located in Algiers, Algeria. This landmark event signifies WIPO’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation across various sectors within the region.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key figures including Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Zouhir Ballalou, the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, and WIPO Director General Daren Tang, who was on an official visit to Algeria. High-ranking officials from ministerial departments and representatives from UN organizations were also present. The Algiers office joins a network of seven WIPO regional offices worldwide. This strategic establishment aims to promote innovation and creativity through intellectual property, providing crucial information, services, and support to stakeholders.
