Lagos Floodmap Officially Launches to Help Nigerians Identify Flood Risks
Lagos, a city grappling with increasingly frequent and severe flooding, has a new tool to help residents navigate the challenging housing landscape. Nigerian innovator Kayode Femi Amoo, also known as Nifemi Alpine, has officially launched Lagos Floodmap, an AI-powered platform designed to empower individuals with critical information about flood risks before they rent or buy property. The innovative platform aims to bring transparency and data-driven decision-making to the often opaque process of finding safe and suitable housing in Lagos.
Identifying Flood-Prone Areas in Lagos
Amoo’s motivation for creating Lagos Floodmap stemmed from his own frustrating experiences while searching for accommodation in Lagos. He encountered numerous properties plagued by mold, water damage, and inaccessible roads due to flooding. These experiences highlighted the pressing need for a reliable system that allows residents to assess a property’s environmental risks before committing to a lease or purchase. “We saw that people were making long-term housing decisions without reliable information,” Amoo explained. “Flooding affects many parts of Lagos, yet the risks are not always disclosed. Lagos Floodmap was created to give people the clarity they need.”
With the launch of Lagos Floodmap, residents can now access vital information about flood risks, fostering informed choices and potentially preventing costly and disruptive experiences. The platform represents a significant step towards addressing the challenges posed by flooding in Lagos and promoting a more transparent and resilient housing market.
