Global Telecommunications Development Conference Opens in Baku
The World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25), a pivotal event organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the government of Azerbaijan, has officially commenced. From November 17th to 28th, Baku will welcome over 1,500 delegates who will convene to shape the future of global digital connectivity strategies.
Bridging the Digital Divide: A Focus on Universal Access
The conference’s opening underscored the critical need for universal, meaningful, and affordable connectivity. The overarching goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of location or economic status, has access to high-quality internet services. This is particularly relevant in the African context, where bridging the digital divide is essential for economic growth and social development. ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin emphasized the conference’s significance, stating, “We are in Baku to breathe new life into global digital development.” She further added that the WTDC-25 will “help create the conditions so that no one is left behind in a world shaped by technology, faster than ever.”
The WTDC-25 represents a significant opportunity to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Discussions and collaborations are expected to foster innovative solutions and strategies for connecting the unconnected and promoting inclusive digital growth worldwide.
