iHub Celebrates Cohort 3 of Mastercard EdTech Fellowship: Driving Innovation in African Education
The iHub Kenya has successfully completed the acceleration program for Cohort 3 of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship. This program, a pivotal initiative fostering innovation in educational technology, focused on twelve promising EdTech startups, with a significant 75% led by women founders. This signals a positive trend of female leadership within the African tech space and particularly in the education sector.
Empowering EdTech Startups for Impact
Over an intensive eight-month period, the twelve selected startups received crucial resources and guidance through mentorship, alongside tools designed to bolster their solutions. The program concentrated on enhancing the real-world applicability of these technologies in both classrooms and communities, especially targeting areas with limited internet connectivity and resource constraints. The aim is to significantly broaden access to quality education for learners in these underserved regions. Nissi Madu, Managing Partner at iHub, highlighted the transformative impact, stating, “Through the Fellowship, we’re seeing a new generation of African innovators redefining what equitable and impactful education can look like.” The program’s support will extend beyond the acceleration phase, offering continued assistance as these startups scale their innovative solutions, aiming to reach millions of learners and drive lasting improvements in learning outcomes.
The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, implemented by iHub, demonstrates a clear commitment to leveraging technology to transform education in Africa. The program has supported a total of 36 EdTech companies since its inception, collectively reaching over 580,000 learners, highlighting the substantial impact of the initiative in the African education landscape.
