Ghana and Burkina Faso Eliminate Roaming Charges, Boosting Regional Integration

Ghana and Burkina Faso have taken a significant step toward fostering stronger ties and facilitating seamless communication by eliminating mobile roaming fees between the two countries. This landmark agreement promises to significantly reduce communication costs for travelers and businesses operating across the border, paving the way for enhanced digital and economic integration.

Free Roaming Agreement Details

The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) and Burkina Faso’s Autorité de Régulation des Communications Électroniques et des Postes (ARCEP), effectively ends the burden of high roaming charges for mobile subscribers. Now, individuals traveling between Ghana and Burkina Faso can utilize their mobile devices at local domestic rates, removing a major barrier to cross-border communication.

By removing the financial disincentive to stay connected, this initiative encourages collaboration, trade, and cultural exchange. It signifies a commitment to breaking down communication barriers within the West African region and leveraging technology for shared progress. The elimination of roaming fees is anticipated to stimulate economic activity and enhance regional mobility for citizens of both Ghana and Burkina Faso.
