EU Maintains SoutH2 Corridor as Priority Energy Project, Bolstering Africa-Europe Green Link
The European Commission recently announced on December 1st that two significant initiatives championed by Italian gas network operator Snam have secured their place on the EU’s updated priority list for cross-border energy projects. This crucial inclusion not only underscores their strategic importance but also makes them eligible for vital European funding. Having previously featured on the 2023 priority roster, their continued presence signals strong confidence and suggests their imminent integration into Snam’s updated industrial plan, anticipated early next year. This development is key for Europe’s energy transition and decarbonization efforts.
Propelling Europe’s Green Transition with Strategic Infrastructure and African Partnerships
Among the 235 initiatives spotlighted on this comprehensive European list, the SoutH2 Corridor stands out as a pivotal hydrogen pipeline project. Designed to forge a crucial link between Algeria, Italy, Austria, and Germany, this corridor is envisioned to be a cornerstone of Europe’s future hydrogen economy. By connecting North Africa, specifically Algeria, directly to Central Europe, the SoutH2 Corridor represents a tangible step towards diversifying Europe’s energy sources and fostering a robust green hydrogen supply chain.
