MTN Nigeria Bounces Back with ₦750.2 Billion Profit After Tax
After weathering two challenging years, MTN Nigeria has announced a remarkable financial turnaround. The telecommunications giant reported a profit after tax of ₦750.2 billion for the nine-month period ending September 2025, signaling a significant recovery. This positive outcome follows losses after tax of ₦514.9 billion in 2024 and ₦137 billion in 2023.
Factors Driving the Profit Rebound
The impressive financial performance is largely attributed to improvements in the Nigerian macroeconomic environment. The stabilization of the Naira, appreciating from ₦1,535 against the US dollar in December 2024 to ₦1,475 at the end of September 2025, played a crucial role. Furthermore, the easing of inflation from 34.8% at the end of 2024 to 18.0% in September 2025 provided a more favorable operating landscape. Beyond macroeconomic factors, MTN Nigeria’s service revenue experienced substantial growth, increasing by 57.5% to reach ₦3.7 trillion. Data revenue led the way, contributing ₦1.9 trillion, followed by voice revenue at ₦1.3 trillion.
MTN Nigeria’s return to profitability showcases the resilience of the company and the impact of a more stable economic climate in Nigeria. The company’s strong performance in data and voice revenue further solidifies its position as a key player in the Nigerian telecommunications market.
